Fashioned as if a tiny garden door with flourishing Ivy to the front and blooming Roses to the reverse symbolising the ties of love, this sweet antique book locket could not be more interesting and charming! All hand engraved; open the clasp and you will find that it has the sweetest sentimental photograph and arrangement of hairwork. This piece will once have held the greatest of significance and precious feelings and one can see this in the care taken to add painted highlights to the old photograph. Adorable.
Circa 1860's/70's, the plaque to the reverse is hand engraved in a gothic lettering with the initials 'WAP', but well hidden within the design they are not obvious. The whole measures 23mm by 18mm and the fastening is nicely secure in 9ct Gold (to the back and fronts, clasp) and a base alloy metal to the internal compartments.
